Skin Types

Its Skin talk today!

I have the strangest skin type in the WORLD!

I'm not kidding.

My skin is always dry and flaky.... in some places. In other places (chin, mouth area, cheekbones) my skin is oily and it takes a lot of work to manage the breakouts I get. Usually, this is called a combination skin type, but with eczema taking over my T-zone my skin type just becomes confused.

For you readers out there who use skincare products daily on your face (which you should be doing) i'm here to explain exactly what the different skin types are and how you can care for them best.

Let's start with the most common skin type and the one which i have to deal with under my eczema:

Combination Skin Type

This is the most common and hardest to deal with skin type.

A combination skin type means that certain areas of your face are dry or normal and other areas produce more sebum (oil) than they are supposed to.

Generally, combination skin means that your T-zone will be oily while your cheeks can be normal or dry.

What can you do?

For your T-zone using a good cleanser for oily skin morning and night is essential. You should also use a toner specifically for oily skin in this area.

For your cheeks, forehead and other dry parts of your skin using a gentle moisture-based cleanser morning and night will be beneficial. An intense hydration cream is essential to use morning and night in these areas.

You can also find oil's and serums that are made for combination, dry and oily skin types which can be used accordingly.

There are now products that are specifically formulated for combination skin so a bit of research into them may help you find products that work well with your skin.

Dry Skin Type

Dry skin can be flaky, rough and tight.

This type is due to the skin not producing enough sebum (skin oil) which makes the skin dry out.

This skin type requires ultra- hydration cleansers, toners and especially moisturizers. It's important to find a good moisturizer that won't harm your skin.

Hydration serums can also be very useful to add extra moisture to your skin, however, be wary of adding too much oil to your face as it can turn your skin from dry to oily.

Oily Skin Type

This skin type is very popular in teenagers and can be frustrating when it causes complications such as pimples and blocked pores.

Your skin may be oily due to it producing extra sebum (skin oil) than it needs to. This causes a build-up of oil on your skins surface and leads to your pores becoming blocked.

The best way to treat this skin type is to use oil control cleansers, toners and moisturizers (a serum may help to but make sure you aren't just adding extra oil to your face). In cases where pores have become blocked a good facial scrub can really help clean your skin out.

Just make sure to use products that don't contain oil.

Normal Skin Type

This is the skin type that everyone wants but seldom have.

A normal skin type can be characterized as skin which is hydrated, has a well-balanced colour, isn't too shiny and is generally very healthy.

Even if you have this blessing of a skin type it is still important to keep up with twice daily cleanse, tone, moisturize routines as without doing so the dirt and oil could build up on your skin and turn that perfect face into an oily or dry skin type.

Regular up keep is important, no matter what skin type you have.
